A Money-Making Virus... The Auction Bug!A Money-Making Virus... The Auction Bug!
By Julie Frost © 2003 www.YourHomeBiz.com

With so many computer viruses you hear about these days, it's nice to finally talk about a bug that will make you money. I've been doing business on the Internet since 1996, but it wasn't until about a year ago that I discovered online auctions. Now I wonder why it took me so long!

It all started when I wanted to clean out my home office. I figured I might be able to make some money with the old home business books I had read and no longer needed.

But then I caught it! "Auction Fever!" I started looking for more books to sell (because they sold well -- over 98% of the time!) Then I moved on to my old clothes. They sold even better. So then I sold some of the clothes my kids had grown out of. And then some tapes. And so on and so on.

Here's how fun and addictive it can get... I even started going to local auctions, finding some great buys, and selling those items online! It's really that fun -- and profitable.

I once met a woman at my mother-in-law's yard sale that goes to yard sales on weekends to find collectibles, and sells those at the online auctions during the week. She makes a full-time living doing this, and she gets to stay at home with her children, too.

The thing is, no matter how full your attic, garage, or closets, eventually you run out of things to sell from your own home.

That's where drop-shippers come in.

You can become a wholesale distributor for many "drop-ship" companies. These companies will pack your items, usually with your name and return address, and a receipt without a price listed. In other words, you can sell these items for whatever price you choose.

You can get even bigger discounts (in many cases) when you buy wholesale and do the packing and shipping yourself. Wholesale companies are similar to drop-ship companies, only you buy directly from them (usually by the case or other bulk quantity).

I prefer drop-shippers, simply because I don't particularly enjoy spending an hour at the post office each day. To me it's worth it to have a slightly smaller profit margin and work completely from home. But others like the variety and deep discounts they can get on wholesale products.

Haven't been bitten by the auction bug yet? Try selling some of your old "stuff" and I bet you'll have the fever in no time!
