Are you ready to make a profound change in your life...in your income?

I have three questions for you:
1) Can you write a simple letter?
2) Do you want to earn an extra $30,000 to $100,000 a year?
3) Do you want to make it on your own terms...working where you want, when you want, as much as you want, with no daily commute and no bosses breathing down your neck?

A Note From The Editor

Hello, and a warm welcome to our new subscribers as well as our loyal readers.

Whew! I’m exhausted. I recently decided to give the site a facelift with a new logo and a bit of a new look. For any of you who maintain websites, you know how much work that can be.

Not only that, but I really concentrated on getting some new features up and running at the site this month. I’ve highlighted them in the What’s New section of this newsletter.

As if all that wasn’t enough to keep me busy, as I was immersed in these projects, ListBot announced that they were discontinuing their service (ListBot is what I use to send out this e-zine). So, I’ve had to move this list to their new service. I’m really hoping that it’s a smooth transition for you, but bear with me if there are any problems!

As always, I really like hearing from you. Take a minute to drop me a note and let me know what you think about our new logo, this month’s issue, or anything else that’s on your mind. Believe it or not, I actually read every single email that I receive (which is alot, let me tell you!).

Enjoy!

Is Working At Home Really For You?Is Working At Home Really For You?
(c) Copyright 2001, Sharon Davis

I remember what it was like when I was still working away from home. I remember all too clearly how desperate I was to quit my job and stay home with my children. It was my mission in life. So....there was a lot of discussion between my husband and I. There were a lot of questions that we asked ourselves; Can we afford to do this? What kind of business could I start and run at home? Am I really ready to give up my demanding, stressful, rewarding career?

IsolationThat last question was an important one. Was I ready to give up the daily adult interaction, the support of my peers, the stimulus of being out in the world each day? If the idea of being fairly isolated from others sounds about as appealing as several weeks in a sensory deprivation chamber, you might want to stick it out with your 9 to 5.

Before you make the jump, be sure you know what you're signing up for. Working at home can be very challenging, especially for those lacking discipline. You can't get a whole lot done if you just can't resist watching Regis and the next thing you know, Oprah's on. You also have to be able to say no. When people know you are at home, even if they know you are working, it's seemingly irresistible for them to ask favors of you. You have to be able to politely let people know that while you do work at home, you do have a schedule to keep.

Why do the tantrums always occur while I'm on the phone? With children at home, it's even more challenging. How do you balance the time between kids and work? How do you meet your professional goals and not compromise your children's needs? What are you going to do when your toddler decides to throw a tantrum while you are on an important call with a client? I find that it is extremely important to have a structured day so that I set aside time for the kids as well as my work schedule. I want to accomplish certain things work-wise each day, but I'm not willing to give up the playtime, the homework time, or the just being-together time with my kids. For me, I have found that if I identify daily non-negotiables for work, family time and housework, I'm productive and I get to keep my sanity (OK, I don't really get to keep it, but I have use of it most of the time).

I do have to admit that I am probably really well suited to this. This is mostly due to the fact that I am (according to my husband) extraordinarily stubborn and determined. I am also willing to be a mom most of the day, and then do my "other" job at night. I have been known to get up out of bed in the middle of the night just to work on an idea. Do you think that if I had to get dressed and drive to an office somewhere that I would do it? This is what notepads were invented for. It really can be like having 2 or 3 full-time jobs.

This is not to say that there aren't at least as many benefits to working at home. I get to set my own schedule. I can take a break to give piggy-back rides to my little daughter. I can work in my pajamas (of course I don't really do that). Working at home can be very rewarding for many people, but it's not for everyone. Make sure you realistically envision the impact it would make on your daily life, and whether or not it fits with your personal needs.

A Business Opportunity Waiting To Happen
A Business Opportunity Waiting To Happen

    by Michael Gifford

    THE BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY MAZE
Have you been thinking about starting your own home-based business? If you're like most people with the same desire, not only are you having difficulty determining WHERE to start, you're also confused about WHAT to start. You have read so many business opportunity classifieds, received so many offers in the mail, watched so many late night money-making infomercials, and listened to so many sales presentations that your head is swimming.

    NOW IT'S MY TURN
I'm going to introduce you to what could be your greatest business opportunity ever. I assure you that you have never seen anything else exactly like this anywhere at any price. You and you alone would control its success. Best of all, it's something you already have which means it wouldn't cost you a penny to get it started. Permit me to introduce you to YOU!!!

That's right - YOU! You, the one-of-a-kind individual. You, the architect of your own dreams and the captain of your own success. You, the one true motivating force behind your actions. YOU! You have your own unique personality, skills and knowledge and because of this, you may very well be a business opportunity waiting to happen.

OH, THE THINGS YOU CAN DO!
I know that there are 40 bazillion opportunities out there and several of them are probably very good, but in your search for that perfect home-based business, why limit yourself to what others have to offer? Why not take a look at what YOU YOURSELF have to offer and create your own business? It's not like it's never been done by anyone before. After all, every business that has ever existed had to have been started by someone!

We stand in awe of people such as Henry Ford, Bill Gates, and others like them because of what they started and built their businesses into, yet all they did was take two things you yourself have and combine them with a couple of other items that you need to get if you don't already possess them. They took their KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS and combined them with a BURNING DESIRE and BELIEF IN THEMSELVES. They did not wait around for someone else to give them an opportunity. Instead, each of them was a business opportunity waiting to happen, and, oh, did they ever happen.

    "AM I?"
Are you a business opportunity waiting to happen? A little self-examination might help you decide.

Start with a serious assessment of your knowledge and skills. What are your strengths? What do you do really well? Can you turn this into a home-based business? Do you know anyone else who has? How are they doing at it? Could you improve upon what they do? Write all of this down.

Now concentrate on what you most enjoy doing in life. If you could do just one thing for a living and make all the money you'd ever need doing it, what would that be? CAN you make a living doing it? Are there others doing it? If you can't make a living doing it, is there something you can do that is related to it? For example, if your favorite activity in life is golf but you know that you could never make the pro tour, what business could you start that would allow you to make a comfortable living while you spend your days thinking about and doing something involving golf? Again, make sure that you put pen to paper as you do this important exercise.

Is this all you need to know? No. These questions form only a starting point from which you can and must proceed into more intense research. But these questions can certainly serve to get your creative juices flowing and help you decide what type of home-based business is right for you. Besides, it's a lot of fun to just sit down and dream of the many possibilities of a life spent doing what you enjoy most.

    SO, ARE YOU?
Are you indeed a business opportunity waiting to happen? Do you have something locked up inside you which if released and developed into a business would have people knocking down your door to purchase what you're offering? Could your success in the business you create be a future cover story for "Entrepreneur" magazine? Perhaps there has never been a better time than now for you to find out.

"If you begin an important endeavor, there is a chance of failure. If you do not begin, your failure is certain."

    Have you found your GOOBI?
    Have you found your GOOBI?

    by Jeff McCall

Many people spend the whole of their lives searching for that elusive secret to their own success. Often the so-called 'secret' is sitting right under their very nose.

Let's face it, unless you're naturally gifted, making a success of anything involves a whole lot of hard work. A lot of the time, the work we're faced with is often boring and monotonous. Wouldn't it be great if it were fun? Ding, dong! Are the lights starting to flash, and bells starting to sound inside your head yet?

I'm tempted to carry on rambling at this stage, but I know your just itching to find out what a GOOBI is. Am I right?

Well I'll put you out of your misery right now! GOOBI is simply a mnemonic for Get Out Of Bed Inducer. It's that thing that gets you out of bed in the morning and puts a spring in your step. It's also been described elsewhere, as your "Friday night essence". Think about it, what would you happily spend Friday night working on instead of dining with friends or watching a movie?

I was reminded of the GOOBI concept recently, whilst watching a film. The title of the film escapes me, which is probably best because it was rubbish. If I was to tell you the title you'd only go watch it, and then you'd be saying why did he mention that film it was rubbish.

Anyway, at one point in the film, the leading character made a statement that struck a chord with me. He said "The secret to success is to find something you love doing, and do it for the rest of your life!" Of course, he was talking about finding your GOOBI.

So here comes the hard part. To find your GOOBI you have to start thinking for yourself. I know that bit's going to come as a shock to some of you, as a lot of people will go to the ends of the earth to avoid thinking for themselves. Isn't it just a lot easier to run with the flock and let the shepherd and his dog make all the decisions for you?

BAAAHHH!!If you've just answered "Yes" to that last part, then all I have to say to you is "Baaah!". For those of you who don't speak Sheep, roughly translated this means "You'd be better off grazing with the flock, you haven't got what it takes".

If you think that thinking is hard, you ain't seen nothing yet!

(Authors note: "think that thinking is hard" is it me or does that have chicken and egg connotations? Never mind, hopefully you see my point. Let's get back to the plot.)

What do you really love to do? It's a simple question; so don't try to make it a hard one. We're talking about constructive exercises here so don't cheat by saying "Nothing". Anyway, I'm sure you'd get bored doing absolutely nothing for the rest of your life.

The answer you come up with should be your true vocation. If you're totally honest with yourself, then if you do the thing you love for the rest of your life, you can't fail to be successful. You'll literally do anything you need to do, to carry on doing what you love to do. Hey, have I just invented a new tongue twister, or another piece of nonsense rhyme?

So, go find your GOOBI! You know it makes sense, which after reading what I've just written, is more than I do.

    Be successful!
