I have worked at home for 15 years now and love it. If some says, " What do you do?" I answer, "I work at home!" But I could say I telecomute. My work is through the computer and phone. I never punch a clock or commute! I truly believe there will be a day when the majority of people work at home and "TELECOMMUTE."

Just my thoughts.
Here is a site that provided some great articles and information on work at home jobs and telecommuting.

I would have to agree with you about this topic covering a huge array of different types of jobs out there however still excluding the always annoying telemarketers...lol But like you, MyKidsMom, I also work from home on my computer and phone doing customer service and meeting tons of wonderful people all across the United States and sometimes even reaching to other countries. It gets kind of spendy when that happens but completely worth it because everyone has a wonderful story to tell and to share their dreams with you and to be a part of helping them reach those dreams to make them a reality is enough of a reward in itself.

Telecommuting can be exchanged for certain work at home activities, but working for home does not always imply telecommuting. You need to have a job elsewhere and be able to perform that work at another location so that activity can properly be called telecommuting.

This is true...telecommuters work for a company either as a permanent part of staff or often on a contract basis and this is different than running your own business.

More and more companies are realizing the benefits of offering telecommute options to their employees such as increased productivity, less sick time, lower overhead and sometimes they pay telecommuters less or don't offer benefits. I'm hoping that more companies will join this trend and offer it routinely. There are many companies out there that are entirely virtual, that is all of the employees work from their homes and they use technology to keep connected.

Personally, I don't think that the telecommuter should earn less than their office-bound counterparts but for some people it's worth it. What do you think? Would you accept a pay cut to be able to do your job (or a job) from home?

I would accept a cut only if the amount to be cut is co-related to the overhead cost saved myself by telecommuting; like vehicle maintenance, gas, transportation cost, etc. :)

Sounds fair to me! In my last job, I was allowed to work from home one or two days a week. It was just one of the benefits offered by the company. I see that becoming more of a regular thing over the past few years. It's not full telecommuting, but it sure was nice.

I have been working from home since 1994 as a consultant & love it. As a retiree, this is a great way to supplement my income. I set my own hours & pace & am very fortunate to have health benefits as part of my retirement pkg.

Hi everybody!

I am currenty living in Brazil awaiting a good job offered to me. I also started my own home Biz, but this will take at least a year to see profits.

I am searching for a telecommute or work-at-home or freelance position. I have lots of skills and experience. However, since I am currently in Brazil, no luck. People seem afraid because I am far away.

Any tips, advice, leads, Jobs?? :O)

I would probably take a pay cut. But that's because of my situation. I live near Los Angeles and if I took a job in the city I'd probably have to get up hours before work and spend a tremendous amount of time in traffic and then there's the commute home. :( It would be worth it when you factor in the time spent in traffic, the cost of gas, and the extra sleep time.

Freelance may be your best option. Try www.Elance.com .

The other option is to keep networking on forums, social media sites and offline and let people know you're looking for a telecommute job. You just don't know who will need your services.

I used to work down there too, and it's a killer commute no matter where you're driving or what time of day it is. I sure don't miss that!
