Some say the internet has "EXPLODED" network marketing some think otherwise.

Thoughts?

Oh, it's definitely brought marketing to a whole new level. With that said, I think you still have to practice good old fashioned marketing techniques.

Now with web 2.0, we're at another turning point...I'm just beginning to grasp the potential of using social bookmarking, communication apps (like Twitter (http://twitter.com/sharondavis) for example, which Stirls made a great post (http://www.2work-at-home.com/forums/showthread.php?t=666) about in another folder) and social networking sites like MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/2workathome) and Facebook (http://facebook.com).

The internet is bringing the most viable and powerful business model (network marketing) into the 21st century like no other tool in the last 50 years.

I have been an advocate of Network Marketing for decades, but found a lot of difficulty in building my businesses using the old-school methods.

Making a list of family, friends, and associates
Holding in-home or hotel meetings
Purchasing "hot" prospects or Leads
Talking to anyone who comes within 3 feet of you

The most useful approach for friends or family is usually going to be product driven. Even then, you will typically find this group to be the most critical and negative there is (Sometimes at the cost of your dreams). I advise all my new people to hold off on approaching any family and friends unless they are aware of their desire to start a business.

Holding meetings or doing live presentations...I can personally do these, and I have in the past. The problem is that about 95% of the population is not capable of doing presentations, and their biggest fear is talking in front of a group of people. In Network Marketing it is never about what I can do...It is about what I can teach others to do. If it is not reproducible, than it is useless.

Purchasing leads has never produced much of a positive result for me. Most of the prospects are merely curious or tire-kickers. If you have the time to make 500 to 1000 dials a week, and have developed the posture and professionalism to actually close the deal...Go for it. I developed my skills in prospecting and closing, but still find the numbers needed to be too great to justify the number of hours needed. I believe the most valuable thing in my life is time...If I am wasting it on non-productive cold-calling, than I deserve the results I get.

When I came to the realization that this is actually a relationship business, my entire outlook and approach to business building changed for the better. I no longer purchase leads, hold any sort of in-home meetings, or pass out flyers at the local mall or door-to-door. I have adopted a much simpler method, that produces far greater results with far less personal effort.

As a technical trainer for the last 15 years, my job was to take a complex Unmanned Aircraft System and be able to teach it to people at a 5th grade level. I have applied the very same (K.I.S.S.) mentality to starting a home-based business.

Today I specialize in "Attraction-Based" Marketing. The amount of free tools available to us in the internet age are astounding. I teach people how to harness the power of Social Networking mediums like MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, and the like. Additionally, I train them on the creation of simple and effective Landing pages, sales copy, and email campaigns. These types of tools do the majority of my work for me (24/7).

I am blessed with the ability to express myself through the written word, and can use that for business building through articles, text ads, classifieds, forums, and several other methods.

I made a conscious decision to NEVER pay for leads again, and now have developed ways to generate my own prospects, who are better qualified, more motivated, and will usually contact me wanting to know more. When I get messages from prospects trying to track me down, instead of the reverse...it makes me truly enjoy the business model I am using.

Start to explore what internet marketing can do for your Network Marketing business. Once you get started, you will never want to return to the old-school marketing ways!
